Warehouse worker wins PSC Barcelona for nearly €1 million

A 27-year-old warehouse worker from Sweden has won one of the biggest poker tournaments of the year at PSC Barcelona.

Sebastian Sorensson from Lund, near Malmo in Sweden, won €987,043 after outlasting a 1,682-player field in the €5,300 Barcelona Main Event. He qualified online for just €215 – and said he might now give up his job!

 

Popular Brazilian player Andre Akkari was fifth in the Main Event for €317,960 while Britain’s Usman Siddique – who won UKIPT London last year – finished sixth for €252,000. Siddique, who lives in London, also finished 24th in the record-breaking PokerStars National Championship which attracted a record 4,557 entries.

 

Barcelona has been a pivotal destination through PokerStars live tournament history. A host to the first-ever EPT stop back in 2004, the iconic tour has been regularly returning to the Catalonian capital every year. This year there were more than 21,000 entries this year including PokerStars’ biggest ever live tournament: the National Championship had 4,557 entries.

 

Other highlights during the festival included FC Barcelona star defender and 2010 FIFA World Cup champion Gerard Pique scoring his biggest poker cash after finishing fifth for €129,350 in the €25k event. Stephen Chidwick also scored a personal best in the €25,500 Single Day tournament, beating a 122-entry field for a career-topping €690,400 payday.  

 

Other PokerStars events coming up include PokerStars Festival Uruguay September 16-23 and PokerStars Festival Dublin at the end of September. The next PokerStars Championship event after Barcelona will be PokerStars Championship Prague in December.
