Vladimir Geshkenbein makes history after winning APPT Main Event

Vladimir Geshkenbein, a 28-year old former poker pro from Russia, has become the first player to win an APPT and EPT title after taking down the 2016 APPT Macau Main Event on Saturday.

Geshkenbein began Saturday's 2016 Asia Championship of Poker Main Event final table on top and that's how he ended. He hoisted the Gold Spade trophy after defeating a field of 302 players in PokerStars LIVE Macau’s flagship series. Geshkenbein, now an economics student, earned HK$5,743,000 for his victory and made poker history by becoming the first player to win the Main Event on both the Asia Pacific Poker Tour and European Poker Tour. He won the 2011 EPT Snowfest Main Event in Austria for €390,000.

"It's awesome" said Geshkenbein about his accomplishment in the HK$100,000 buy-in tournament. In total, 36 players cashed for a share of the HK$28,116,200 prize pool.

David Peters beat British businessman Paul Newey heads up to take down the ACOP High Roller for HK$4,885,200, the equivalent of $629,800. There were 71 entries creating a prize pool of HK$ 16,699,200. It was the fourth biggest win of the American’s live poker career and brings his total winnings to date to well over $13.2m – he is currently ranked 11th in his country’s all time money list.
